Shandra Woworuntu - Big Omaha 2017 Speaker

Social Entrepreneurship is close to our fabric here at Big Omaha, which is why every year we bring in a social entrepreneur who is doing amazing things to change the world. This year, we are happy to introduce you to Shandra Woworuntu, human trafficking activist and founder of Mentari, who will be joining us in Omaha this year.

After escaping from being sold in an underground sex business run by an international human trafficking ring, Shandra empowers survivors of trafficking to reintegrate to the community through Mentari. Her non-profit provides Direct services, Resources, Education and Training, Advocacy Initiatives and Mentorship also known as D.R.E.A.M.. Such programs include culinary lessons, peer to peer support, arts projects, career coaching, and much, much more. All of these programs help victims reintegrate and move on from their past. Mentari is making a huge difference in the world, both locally and globally.

Shandra is also a commissioner on human trafficking in the state of New Jersey. She was also appointed by Barack Obama to be the member of First U.S. Advisory Council on human trafficking to the Presidential Integration Task Force.
